About

A lifelong love affair with the Brownie camera

Alexander Zane Cole-Underwood is a Provo, Utah-based photography enthusiast who has spent over 30 years exploring the world through vintage Brownie cameras. What started as a curiosity in the early '90s became a lasting passion: the soft focus, rich grain, and happy accidents that only a simple box camera can produce.

When he's not hunting for Brownies at estate sales and antique shops, you'll find him wandering the landscapes of the American West, camera in hand, chasing the light. For Alexander, the joy is in the process: loading the film, composing the shot, and waiting to see what the Brownie reveals in the darkroom.

Passions

01

Collecting

Scouring estate sales, flea markets, and antique shops for vintage Brownie cameras. Each one has its own character, quirks, and story to tell.

02

Shooting

Wandering Utah's deserts, mountains, and small towns with a loaded Brownie. No autofocus, no light meter, just instinct and a little luck.

03

Darkroom

Developing and printing by hand in a home darkroom. There's nothing quite like watching an image slowly appear in the developer tray.
